Survivors

Thandi’s Remarkable Story

Thandi, a female white rhino, survived a brutal poaching attack in which two other rhino were darted and butchered with her and left to die. One of the other males, Themba, survived initially but died of internal injuries 24 days later. This tragic event was conveyed throughout the world as an example of the suffering that rhino horn consumption inflicts on a daily basis in countries like South Africa. Thandi survived against all odds and has since given birth to Thembi and Colin. Their story has inspired many people to keep fighting for survival, as she did. Thandi has become an iconic symbol of a struggle against the brutality of the illegal trade in wildlife. Her survival inspires us to keep fighting, no matter how badly the odds seem stacked against us.

Our thanks to Adrian Sterne for making this terrific film.
